The Egg and the AdultHi, I recently wondered whether birds in eggs excrete the same substance (uric acid) like the grown-up birds.
What d´you think ? Coz i heard something about chickens etc. excreting other things ...
Why ???
Anyway , found the answer in a book barely an hour ago. I was right, they excrete another substance first and then they switch to uric acid
i was suggesting that you seek
more knowledge from the internet about this ok?cos ii don think we can tell you the answer right now nice time peter
Just read my post above:
My book is right, and you´re right. In the first hours they "decide" which substance they excrete.
And i found this page on Sunday: http://ex-anatomy.org/nitro.html So i know it´s because of toxification in the eggs , but one of my books also states they produce more ammonia in the first hours .
It isn't so much a decision as a developing metabolic pathway. Ammonia is produced from amino acid degradation - urea (our main waste) and uric acid (found in sealed-egg terrestrial animals) have to be produced from the ammonia.
