StratificationTrying to complete an assignment and finding a few areas difficult to locate related information. Info is required on stratification. How does stratification relate to grape seeds. Any help or useful websites would be greatly appreciated.
Definately stratification: meaning is " The use of chemical and mechanical systems to break dormancy and increase germination ". I understand the principle, maybe a fire or a spell of really cold weather, or even an animal chewing on the sead coat to complete dormancy and the seed to commence germination. The bit I am lost with is how this actually relates to a GRAPE SEED.

Well, you never get too old to learn something new. Stratification is what I always called soaking.

Re: Stratificationbesides scarification, there's soaking the hard seed of a grape variety for 6 hrs keeping the water warm(don't let it cool). I found that tiny holes in the cells of the seed (especially through the nucleus of a cell) allows water and nutrients to enter that cell very quickly resulting in a larger, stronger , faster growing plant in that species . Almost 100% germination takes place out of 100 seeds. Hook the secondary coil of any induction coil across an evacuated , 1cmx10cm glass tube containing the seeds and and turn on the 6-volts DC power of the model-T Ford's induction coil, for a few minutes. Soaking the treated seeds in a solution with genetic fragments gives the same results. This was a hobby back in the 1920s when Tesla enthusiasts did all kinds of experiments .
