Nutritionist, Ph.D. - Food/ Health and Wellness
· Minneapolis, or Upper Mid-west
Our global client seeks a solid Nutritionist for their established and growing food ingredient and health supplement business. This position will report directly a worldwide Product Team Leader to assist in bringing new proprietary products to market.
We are looking for a very bright, personable, and business minded science executive that wishes to have a real career in a highly ethical company.
The person who is most likely to be happy and successful in this role is:
· Honest, hardworking, and dedicated to high quality research and the highest food quality standards in the U. S. and worldwide.
· Someone that can actually get things done and understands the value of timelines and accuracy - in gaining regulatory approval for new products. Conversely, they are not afraid to bring bad news forward quickly when a potential ingredient is not going to make it.
· Industry segments could be naturally derived ingredients, or nutrition work with carbohydrate uptake, general wellness, obesity, diabetes, or in the cardiovascular arena.
· Well versed in human nutrition, the regulatory approval process, setting up and managing clinical trials, perhaps with a developed network in the trial space, and not opposed to presenting papers at conferences.
· From a recent post-doc to an experienced R&D professional in a global food company wishing to join a dynamic growth group - in Minneapolis, Des Moines, Madison, Denver, KC, or Illinois. Of course the smaller ingredient, nutrition, or clinical trial companies have very talented professionals that may wish to join a global enterprise with advancement potential.
· Works well with other cross-functional team members: various R&D product categories, toxicology, sales, marketing, operations, finance, intellectual property, etc.
· Someone talented at project management, has a mentality of contributing to a development program, familiarity with a matrix management structure, and is really cognizant of professional time management for themselves and others they work with. This group holds each other accountable.
· Is willing to travel a bit: Planned development calls to global customers in the U. S., periodic R&D meetings with counterparts in Europe, and attendance/ participation in health/nutrition/food conferences.
This is a fairly complex and robust position. The focus is the clinical/regulatory process of potential new products, and ultimately successful market entry. For the right, full-contact research and development business professional, this position would be very fulfilling. For others it may be too demanding, frustrating, or confusing.
Being able to establish and manage clinical trials in a highly efficient and professional manner is first and foremost. So this requires the extremely bright scientific mind also capable of the managing critical details, timeline demands, and the complexity of working across several product categories.
International exposure is a plus as there will be future joint ventures, strategic alliances, and developed intellectual property globally. Some partnerships are non-US entities.
International food, health, and safety protocols will be followed at an extremely high level.
A Ph.D. is considered table stakes for this position unless you have an extremely strong corporate science background in this area. Degrees in human nutrition, food science, biochemistry, and a number of medical disciplines would apply.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
