DNA Extraction/ AmplicationExplain why soap solution, table salt and alcohol are used in the extraction of DNA from cheek cells. Reflect on the chemical properties of soap, salt and alcohol.
----------------------- Okay, I know the answer has something to do with the polarity of the liquids (polar molecules attracting non-polar, or something like that). However, I can't find the answer anywhere, as to why why the DNA would separate from the cell because of the combination of soap, salt and alcohol. Please help. Thanks... Peace.

i just came across this site today for 1st time and found ur question unanswered. here is the answer AS WE KNOW THAT DNA IS STORED IN DOUBLE MEMBRANED NUCLEUS.AND ABOUT THE LIPID CONTENT OF THE MEMBRANE. WE USE DETERGENT /SOUP SOLUTION TO DISSOLVE THESE MEMBRANE. SSALT IS USED TO PRECIPITATE THE PROTEINS AND CARBOHYDRATES. AND LASTLY ALCOHOL IS USED TO GET THE DNA,BY PRECIPITATING IT AND CONTAING IN ITS LAYER. HOPE U R SATISFIED WITH MY ANSWER TAHNKS
To explore influence factors of DNA extraction, the protease and phenol-chloroform method was used to extract DNA in whole blood, fresh tissues, frozen tissues embedding with OCT and tissues embedding in paraffin. It results that 200-300 microg DNA was extracted from 1 ml whole blood or 0.2 g fresh tissues or frozen tissue embedding with OCT. DNA extracted from paraffin specimen can be directly used in PCR amplification. Purity DNA can be extracted from four kinds of different tissues. OCT hasn't harmful effect on tissue DNA extraction.
