bitesMy nephew was bit by something yesterday while fishing with his Father. The site has two small holes and it started out looking like an ant bite. Now is is about the size of a quarter and has small red runners around it. We live in Texas and they were in the country by a river. I looked on the internet and can not find anything. The only spider my sister-in-law has seen was light brown and kind of translucent with long skinny legs and small black triangle shapes on its back. Any idea what bit my nephew
it's next to impossible to diagnose on the internet. It's best to go see a real doctor.
"As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
the size of a quarter with red runners does not sound very good, I suggest you take these guys advice and get to the doc ASAP
the wound can became necrotic. On spiders Maybe the recluse http://www.calpoison.org/public/spiders.html Here is a whole search page on rash as big as a quarter, Hope this helps you: http://aolsearch.aol.com/aol/search?enc ... r&ie=UTF-8 Please Let us know how your nephew is. "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these".
~ George washington Carver
Yes, it sounds like a recluse. The venom of a recluse affects the local tissue, causing it to break down and die (what Linn meant by necrotic). If left untreated this can lead to blood poisoning and gangrene.
Its obviously a hemotoxin, judging by the redness and increase in size over time. The recluse has hemotoxins, plus its pretty common in texas. I'm going to be redundant and say that going to a doctor is important.
wisdom=the anti-venom for failure
