1. Regarding segregation
The two alleles of an organism separate during meiosis. Mendel proposed similar ideas in his theory of particulate inheritance.

2. Regarding independent assortment
Again the 2 alleles separate during meiosis. Mendel stated that the appearance of one trait is independent from the appearance of another.
