Concerted Evolution

Postby HELISA » Tue Apr 25, 2006 6:15 pm

:!: Concerted evolution (horizontal evolution, coincidental evolution) is the tendency of the different genes in a gene family or cluster to evolve together, which means that each gene locus in the family comes to have the same genetic variant.
:?: Do you know the evidence that are used to suggest that concerted evolution occurs?
:?: What are the alternative hypothesis refuting concerted evolution?

Hmm...I think that again I didn't specify what I am asking for…well let’s see…I will try again. I am wondering about the evidences which are used to suggest that concerted evolution occurs and which allow to distinguish between the sequences which diverged recently by duplication from the sequences that evolved in concert..
