I wrote on here last year - things are no better probably worse but i have just been browsing on the net and think maybe i have found my problem. Having had reccurring ear infections- i had some ear swabs done by my doctor , they have come back saying I have candida - when i have looked it up it is a yeast problem and its linked to bloating, wind, constipation and stomach problems and once it gets into your system causes all sorts of symptoms - just thought i would pass this on to everyone
Hi - I've had the same problem for the last 5 years. I've been able to control it by diet - Prozac and by a little miracle herb from Natural Balance called Inflame-X. Before bed I take 6 Enzymes and my stomach bloat is gone. As for the weight loss.....still working on it.
I'm convinced it's a symptom of IBS. Most everyone on here seems to have that in common....including me. I am a professional dancer and exercise CONSTANTLY! Over the past three years, my belly has been swelling like crazy and I've been gaining weight. Not a good look for someone in my profession. I feel like a bloated pig. I HATE it and people assume it's bad eating habits. However, no matter what diets I go on, nothing changes and it's constantly being thrown in my face since it affects how I look in costumes. Finding a solution is mandatory or my career is over. I'm looking for answers feverously. If I find one, I'll be sure and post it.
I THINK YOU HAVE FOUND MY PROBLEM!!!! LET ME KNOW WHAT, IF ANYTHING, YOU ARE DOING ABOUT THIS. THE SYMPTOMS ARE MORE THAN THE BLOATING AND I NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS ALL LINKED TO ONE PROBLEM.
Has anyone tried Apple Cider Vinegar?? It is not pleasant to taste or in aroma but if you can get over that it might offer you some relief. Suggested dosage is 3x a day - 1/2tbl in a 8oz of water - add something to sweeten it though.

Concerned and bloated
Hii everyone, i have read all what you have said. I have been suffering bad since quitting smoking. I quit in feb, i have put on a stone in weight. Feel bloated everyday, have alot of gas but i have reduced my intake of food. I eat weetabix x 1 for breakfast, a cup of soup about 11 and another cup of soup and 4 riveta at 2. what is going on. i have gone from someone who weighs little, can eat alot to someon who eats less but has put on weight and who has had enough. Please help. x
hey, i've been having these terrible bloating problems as well for about 3 years now. It started when I was 20 and I'm a very vain person that has recently gotten over an eating disorder so for me this was an absolute DISASTER. I didn't understand what was happening, I dieted and lost even more weight and it seems that I lost weight with this problem. With this problem I've been constipated, severe stomach cramping especially when I wake up in the mornings sometimes...sometimes gas and heartburn. I have seriously tried everything from eliminating certain foods to eating bad foods to overeating to undereating...NOTHING STOPS IT. and it's honestly very random because sometimes i can go a whole month with a normal stomach (without changing a thing) and then sometimes i have the problem consistently for 2 or 3 months. I've had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy and they only found a hiatel hernia (which is common in 60% if people and only cause heartburn)
It seems to definitely get worse when I'm premenstrual and I do have late periods all the time. I am in between 20 and 25 lbs underweight and this problem starting around the time i was on the sushi diet. I was literally eating nothing but raw fish and rice...and for the longest time i blamed that. I even went through a phase where I thought I had a tapeworm ...hence the reason I had a colonoscopy and such. Then I figured it might be because i worked at a pizza place for years and I used to eat tons of pizza every week...(the yeast and all) but eventually I concluded that not eating yeast didn't help much.
I have found that certain foods aggravate it but don't stop it...or even make it better at certain times. And I have also found that starving myself for a while to try and eliminate the bloat from even happening doesn't work and only makes it worse.
It really just seems as though my body has a very hard time digesting food. I also did go to a gyno and they never called me with any bad news...my thyroid test came back fine, i am aenimic but I've always had that problem
the doctors are absolutely clueless and they keep telling me it's ibs but ibs doesn't make you look like you're having a baby.
I thought I and starving etiopians were the only one with this problem, but I do feel better knowing i'm not alone.
the only thing i haven't had tested is my gall bladder or kidneys and it could be either one of those considering when i do eat it's always high in fat or salt or cholesterol.

I have had abdominal and pelvic sonograms. At first they thought something with my gallbladder but turned out negative. I was shocked when they told me I didn't have a huge tumor growing. I still think it may be CANDIDA (google it). I have a lot of the symptoms. Let me know.

Quick intro, my mum's 45 this year and for a year now she's complained of a bloated stomach to me describing the feeling to me as being pregnant, which I didn't really understand.. but I could relate to her basketball in stomach description.
Mum's about 165cm in height, 57ish kg and is of Chinese Ethnicity (21 years in Australia), her diet consists of a lot of white rice, red meat, fish etc. I've mentioned this because no one yet has mentioned their ethnicity which may more clues to their type of food intake
Mum had stomach ulcers for about 10 years she did know about which no doctor could diagnose (ridiculous really..) until maybe 5 years ago. She also has had hyperthyroidism and took a lot of medication which did not work until over a year ago then it was fine. Since then she's complained of a bloated stomach & am unsure if there is a relation. The other week she felt nauseous & weak
I'm trying to help ease the bloated stomach problem for mum and read through all your responses prompting me to take this much more seriously. As you peeps have mentioned, it is somewhat difficult to describe so I didn't really understand where she was coming from
Tests I am aware mum has done all within past 6 months (no abnormal results):
- CT Scan (Abdomen and Pelvis)
- Ultrasound (Abdomen)
- Blood Test
- & Upper gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures
Mum is quite unfit, she does go for walks in the evenings however which relaxes her, her hyperthyroidism is no longer an issue. I did not realise she had this problem until I noticed her stomach was quite large and thought it was all the result of not exercising. I am encouraging her to exercise more as it should help her all round in health & with her metabolism/digestive system. (I'm no doc) Less fat around her stomach region I'm guessing will also reduce the amount of pressure on her bloated stomach
Regarding foods, mum says the following appears to have a fast bloat effect on her:
- rice, bread, noodles, cabbages.
She has constipation occasionally but not always and is able to "empty out" completely. She also mentions she seems to have trouble passing gas
The docs seem pretty lazy at this point so I'm getting mum to experiment safely, naturally with some of the things people have mentioned above and if it don't work I'll get her to check out other specialists.
For now I've asked her to experiment and stay clear of dairy, rice/bread/noodles/cabbages/cauliflower/brocolli & getting her to try chamomile & peppermint tea with and without grated ginger. She says oatmeal is better than rice for now. She has had a similar diet for many years and in fact has improved it with more veges/fruit and less red meat in recent years. She drinks 5 or more cups of water a day and I've convinced her to stop drinking coffee and more tea without milk
I too was thankful I read this thread & wish you all well. I was actually very shocked so many people have this symptom with little explanation from professionals on what it could be! I'll post any updates if I have any.

OK ladies, I am an author of craft books. Age 44 of Irish/English decent. I spent all of Memorial Day weekend in the hospital. Symptoms? Feel 9 months pregnant, look maybe 5. Like a penguin. Nausea for weeks finally landed me there. Last thing up was corned beef, total pain, and I was determined to be admitted. We did everything, MRI, Ultra-Sounds, and finally endoscope of stomach showing inflamed stomach. Sure they said I looked fine--but white blood cell count was at 21,000 and the ONLY symptom to keep me there for all those tests. I do feel this is stress related as I see this spans all age groups and re-appears and dissappears. I doubt an STD, no sex in a year--and enough antibiotics to take down a missle, and I doubt the kids here have that. Still worth a look. But stress can manfiest in so many ways--I know it plays a role here.
Back to the hopsital stay--I felt better being forced chicken broth and Jello, although stayed hungry and bloated. Just no pain. Nexxum at 5:00 am with water. After 10 days of that--I was feeling far better, but still afraid to eat anything. Even on liquids--I am bloating. How can a person bloat when they are not eating anything of merit? By the PM it is worse and best in the AM. I doubt I am getting 1,000 calories a day and bloating. The liquid diet is just to heal the intestines and possible tiny ulcers they saw down there. Bee Pollen does give me energy, and stomach agrees.
I am ultra positive taking OTC things like Aspirin and advil did flare this up--with stress. I am off all that, I was taking 500 mg advil for pain in one shouldar for six months. I have been gradually miserable since then and never related the OTC meds to bloat. Any bloating has ALWAYS been high stress months--hurricane evacuations and stuff like that. Even a traumatic day. This started 4 years ago. They called it diverticultis then-I think I was misdiagnosed. The anti-biotics did work, back then, I will say that.
Pro-Biotics make some sense-I will pursue them as well as Manuka Honey. Google that. Raw honey is very healing to the trac and a pro-biotic. And I have to keep the monster in a drawer (stress.) It is not worth this. I may try acupuncture--I bet they do address stress points when dealing with this.
Basics, I do know--don't wear tight fitting clothes. Chew what food you do eat well. Europe chews very well and has much less reports of this. And fried foods will cause havoc.
Anything I find works I WILL come back and post. I think a lot of people here do not come back when they are better. Let's start!
I will get to 8 glasses of water a day and see if it is not a very simple issue.
Reading everyone's letters, I am seeing major stress in each one. One lady quit smoking (the body finds that very stressful) The next mentioed it is worse during her cycle (me too, another inherent stressor) The next one mentions Prozaz (a med to help stress) but think enzymes work (I think the Prozac) The dancer (only 20) who I fear gets herself stressed because any bloating and that means quits to her career. Stress can feed on stress. It is possible food allergies are taken by us as stress, and we re-act more than most?
I mean 4 hurricane evac in a row set me off 4 years ago. One every week. The Oriental Mum could be stressed by things her son--or she may not realize. Empty nest was an adjustment for me by age 42. 3 kids in college and a quiet house. Perhaps I never had time to be sick prior. I never was--until they were off.
I am thinking to toally avoid stress (life) a few weeks and see how that does.
