If you have a lot of digestive problems (especially accompanied by diarrhea) my suggestion:

– Go see the dentist for the pan ex-ray!!!

I found it surprising, but tooth infections can be painless and can cause a lot of assorted digestive problems (as well as food intolerances)! Unfortunately, doctors usually don’t think of this and you might be suffering until the cause is discovered accidentally (as much as 3 years later). The up side is that pulling the tooth removes 99% of the symptoms practically overnight.

Hello all... I have been on a search for a cure to bloating as well. I feel that I'm getting closer. It all comes down to diet. I thought I was eating well but I've realized that all of this processed food is unnatural and our bodies are telling us this through pain and or discomfort. I had gone to a gastro dr. Who said I have slow emptying of the stomach and to stay on a stool softener. That didn't help so I went to a holistic practitioner. She put me on a product called fiberzon that heals the digestive system. It's not enough just to eat better because the intestines are irritated and need to be healed. Alkalinity, food combining and dairy allergies are worth looking into. Although I find this book to be a bit extreme, there is still a lot of good information in "The PH Miracle" by Dr. Young. Like I said, I'm getting closer and I'll share any findings here because I know just how horrible this is!

if you're not cured, you're probably going nowhere... and any of that methods didn't work, did it?

I look as if I am 9 months pregnant when I bloat - which is almost daily. I used to work out daily and was a gym rat and ate healthy foods and freash fruits and vegtables! After MANY tests the doctors were not sure. But I'm convinced it is a Candida Yeast infection in my gut (Google "Candida"). Need to take HIGH quality PROBOTICS (the type that are kept in the refrigerator) - take 2 or 3 times the regular dose, stay away from ALL WHEAT, RYE, BARLEY, YEAST, FERMENTED FOODS, VINEGAR...... eat Yogurt with Probiotics and vegatables and HIGH PROTEIN FOODS.
If you have your blood tested you may very likely be low in Vitamin D and B's & Iron (your gut cannot abssorb the nutrients in the food becuase of the yeast infelction)! Need to take supplements. It will take months to rid the gut of the yeast infection but you will start to notice an incredible imporvement on feeling less fatigue and not being bloated all the time (I could barley bend over to feed the dog!!!) in just a week or two. I'm probably the only man in history that has any idea what a women most go through being 9 months pregnant!!!
The doctors tested me for parasites.... NEGATIVE..... Tested me for Celiac Disease.... NEGATIVE.... performed Ultra sound of Abdomen..... NEGATIVE..... did colonoscopy.... NEGATIVE!.... Tested for Lactose Intolerance.... NEGATIVE!
I had had Lyme Disease 1 year prior and had been on Doxycycline for 6 weeks. I'm convinced the antibiotics destroyed the good FLORA in my gut and the Candida took over. Do you have toe nail fungus? That's Candida! Do you have itchy skin rashes? Could be Candida. Do you have Athletes Foot? That's Candida! Do you have vaginal or Anal itching?? Very likely Candida!
I thought I was going crazy and the Doctors just wanted to keep doing tests.
Google "candida" or "Bloating for no reason"..... that's how I began to learn what I had.
You'll want to find a Good Quality health food store or Holistic Practioner who can guide you on doing a "Liver Cleanse" and a "Intestinal Cleanse" combined with Probiotics and Vitimans, Minerals, Fish Oil.
I thought I had lost everything........ I'm now starting to feel alive again!
Good Luck to those suffering this HORRIBLE and distressing disease...... I'm finally able to leave my house and not look like a pregnant man!!!
I'd love to hear from others..... it's really horrible sitting at home thinking there is no hope or solution and that no one can tell you what you're suffering from!!!
Best of Luck!

I am having exactly same problems. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done and they keep saying I am fine. I worked daily (spin instructor) and lift weights and eat very healthy (wheat free/gluten free/dairy and soy free0 and yet I am gaining weight and my stomach looks like I am pregnant. Also I am terribly constipated. I am going to my doc's today to ask for a liver test. I am really scared and worried. There must be a reason why we are experiencing this miserable thing that doctors with all their glorious diplomas can't find an answer.

I have had bloating since high school. I am now 60 years old. After 2 head injuries (concussions) 30 days apart, it became life threatening. The second head injury caused 5 herniated discs in my neck, the worst being at C7. However, T4 and T5 are the ones that cause me the stomach trouble. Did you know that head and back injuries can press on nerves leading to your stomach and gall bladder?

My gastrointestinal surgeon is a John Hopkins University graduate. He calls me his 'problem patient'. After exhaustive tests and thousands of dollars, he sent me to a neurologist. Between the two doctors they decided that the nerves leading to my stomach are being impinged by my neck and back injuries. I eat. The food digests. Then it sits in my stomach for 8-10 hours. Then I vomit for 13 or more hours. Then I go to ER and they unclog me. My intestines actually are temporarily paralyzed. It's called intermittent peristalsis. It can be life threatening. The pain is very intense under the belly button. The vomiting is non stop until there is nothing but bile and pus coming up. All electrolytes are gone. My blood pressure soars to 210 over 180. The heart begins to flutter. It's dangerous. That is one of the causes of my stomach problems. Lots of water with food is now essential to make sure it moves on through. Chiropractors help because they can adjust the muscle groups that are in spasm and cause the nerves to be pinched. If you have had any kind of neck or back injury to your spinal area, start with a good chiropractor who has trained massage therapists with degrees in massage therapy. Freeing up those muscles really helps the nerves to relax.

The second thing I have tried successfully is to stop eating or drinking all sugar. I go on a liquid, soft diet. Yogurt and high protein drinks, which you can buy at your discount, grocery, and drugstore anywhere. I like the 17gram protein drinks the best. Then when I eat anything that turns to sugar, I can visibly watch my stomach swell. ALL GRAINS, not just the gluten ones, ALL of them turn to sugar. I drink enough water and take Milk of Magnesia or Miralax and drink plenty of water so there is no danger of pasta or bread getting stuck. An allergist did a RAST test on me and found out I was allergic to all grains, not just the gluten ones. Rye, barley, soy, wheat, corn, and oats. The RAST test is the one where they scrape your skin with tiny bits of the allergic substance and watch it swell.

I suggest that you just try one day to eat nothing but a soft or liquid diet. Protein drinks, yogurt, sugar free jello, nothing thick and no sugar and watch your stomach shrink. Then eat any grain product: cracker, bread, pasta, corn...and watch your stomach swell. We eat too much grain in the USA and it all turns to sugar and ferments in our stomachs. Eventually, it catches up with us. I hope this helps someone.

I also have a bloated abdamon for oh about 6yrs. now. I used to weigh about 115lbs. all my life.
I was always very active. I've also had 7 kids and after each one you couldn't even tell i had a baby. And now I weigh 170lbs. And I look like I'm 9mos. pregnat... I can't even were a regular pair of pants, shorts or underwhere!!! I'm so uncomfortable even just sitting and , can't seem to be able to do anything! Nothing it's so hard for me...
Most days I get's me so depressed, it makes it hard for anyone else to be around me. I think. My boyfriend, the poor guy... I know this has gotta be tough on him cause most days I can't control my emotions and I just go crazy off !!! and I can't stop my self. It's horrible!!! It's gotta be. Now I've been thru alot of tests. I've had exstensive testing as far as blood work, everything my internal specilist could have done. I've had Catscans, Ultra sounds And, i've even had Full M.R.I.'s
And, i'm talking thoughly done tests and here's whats weird after my last MRI It was about 2 days I was feeling so bad I almost couldn't take it anymore I was so bloated And I went in my room and, my boyfriend came in and we were just talking and all of a sudden I felt these tissues in my upper abdamon ripping and then I felt this liquid pouring into my body cavity and it burned really bad and OMG I'm Trying to get my breath and i stand up and, my boyfriends just standing there starring at my in total shock! and we both look up at eachother and we're both thinking the same thing... That it was my stomach acid And then we realize I;m probely gonna die here pretty quick because, the acids gonna eat my organs!!! That scared the crap outta me.Then I traveled up my back to about the middle and stopped and that still hurts.
Then all of a sudden my Stomach (and we're watching this with our own eyes) Goes all the way flat in seconds!!! We were like WTF... And , the next thing I know is that for the next 2 days I had felt better than I'd felt in years!!!
But, it didn't last.:( I went back to the same as before only I didn;t die. So guess it wasn't my stomach, I don't know what it was still. It still burns the same as that day. So I tell my Drs. office when they called with my MRI results. And the woman just says you'll have to call back tomarrow if you'd like to make an appt. OK I said ... Yea ! It was like she didn't even hear me.!!! And they didn't see any thing in the MRI that they didn't see in the catscan. Basicly there telling me theres nothing wrong with me. I 've since gone to other Drs. the last one said It's all in my head and i come up with the symptoms because someone might suggest they think they know what i have... Crap!!! Theres something wrong with me and I'd really like someone to help me because it's so not me I don't feel like me and i'm despret to fix whatever it is so I can feel good again. I'm only 47yrs old. Please if anyone knows anything we'd really be greatful.

Thanks ,
Jon & Cindy ...

I have had several problems for the past 5 years and have not been able to get a diagnosis or basically any relief. I went to a gastro Dr. complaining of constipation, gas and bloating. I have recently been put on Perdium and charcoal pills. Just this past month I have had a colonoscopy and ultra sounds of the pelvic and abdomen. Nothing has been found with the exception of cysts on the right ovary.

Thank you Kmas for starting this and for your follow up on page 14. The very day I saw your post, today, I went to Walgreens to buy some HCL with Pepsin and they did not carry it. I then went to a nutrition store and they had it for $11. I was bloated before I ate dinner, took the pill, ate dinner, bloating is gone!!! I am hoping this was my problem as well. I will follow up in a week or so of my results.

For those who care to know, I am 41 female with constant bloating. No other symptoms although I wonder if the fatigue and weight gain was related and will now be resolved due to this remedy. Have daily BM's, no constipation, no other symptoms. Just the constant annoying problem of looking and feeling 9 months pregnant. I tried enzymes, probiotics, yogurt, and peppermint oil with no real results to my problem. I even stopped using aspartame and drinking pop.

Thank you for this website and board. I am glad I came upon it in my search. I wish the rest of you the best of luck in finding your cure.

Hey guys, same problem here, and after extensive research I've found that for myself at least, the problem is due to pre-diabetes. Basically, poor control of blood sugar levels can trigger symptoms in the digestive system, as well as messing with the body's function in general.

Here's a good link that explains the connection between diabetes and bloating. Though I'm not a fan of this article's proposals for how to fix the symptoms. They propose all sorts of medications. However I think that a low-carb diet and extensive exercise can fix diabetes (and bloating) better. http://journal.diabetes.org/clinicaldia ... /pg148.htm

Here's another link that explains reversing diabetes in general. It doesn't say anything about bloating, but does explain very well how to reverse diabetes, which should prevent the bloating once you get blood sugar in control: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24716880/ns ... knX8HOftqs

In general, I suspect that most people today have blood sugar control problems to some degree. Fixing these fundamental issues with the body will then fix various symptoms that arise from these fundamental issues.

I have been having these same problems for about a month now. I had gallbladder surgery in June of 2010, so it can't be my gallbladder, but as of right now my stomach is swollen from top to bottom like I am about 8 months pregnant. I have never been so miserable in my life. My Doctor has me shceduled for an abdominal ultrasound Tueday September 6th. I pray he can help. It is so bad that I am going to have to go and buy stretch pants just to be able to go to work. On top of looking like I am pregnant, my stomach constantly burns. I have been put on prescription 40 MG Prilosec and been taken off of that and put on Nexium 40Mg 2x's a day. Still not helping. If anyone finds out what is going on with all of us, please let me know. I will do the same.

Thanks.

I've been caught up in reading all of these posts and taking notes on things I should look into, so I decided to ask for myself. Here is my story - any feedback would be appreciated:

Four years ago I started getting really sick out of nowhere. For about two years I would go through periods of nausea throughout the day - food would sit in my stomach undigested until I would puke it up hours later (sometimes up to 10 hours later). I would feel so sick I couldn't talk. I would get almost dizzy and have the shakes with cold sweats (almost like I was being poisoned or something). I had every imaginable test done: Colon/Endoscopy, I was tested for H.Pyloir, gallstones, stomach ulcers, ulcerative colidis, etc... All negative.

For some reason two years ago, my food started digesting again and I wasn't sick anymore - literally just like that, out of the blue. After hearing all that time from doctors that stress was my problem, I thought they were right and that my body just magically healed itself (it had decided to stop being stressed...).

After that I slowly started to gain weight. It really took off just over a year ago when I took a new job; stress, eating out, late nights, little sleep, etc... I thought it had everything to do with this, but no matter what I do I can't seem to lose the weight. And the worst part is the horrible bloating I get. I've noticed the bloating even before gaining the weight, but now after putting on 25 pounds the bloating looks more like being pregnant.

I noticed a post about Chlamydia and Candida Yeast, so I think it's important to add that while I was in college (2003-2006) I battled with constant bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections. After dealing with that for over three years I thought it was gone and haven't dealt with it since. However, I did end up getting Chlamydia about four years ago from a past (obviously EX) boyfriend, which I got treated for and was retested as negative. After reading some of these posts I got freaked out that maybe all of these issues I've been having are a result of years of reoccurring yeast infections and from getting Chlamydia.

Could that be the case, and if so what do I do from here? Who do I see and what do I go in for?
