I am hoping that there is someone who can help me or at least point me in the right direction. For the last 6 years I have had stomach bloating. I did every test possible. It is not IBS, thyroid, or low stomach acidity, food allergies.... I can look 5-6 months pregnant without exaggerating. Also in these 6 years I have had a 30 pound weight gain. I have an amazing diet and always exercise. I have never been healthier. It seems the healthier I eat or the more I exercise the bigger I get. The weird thing is last July I gave birth. During my pregnancy and for about 6 months after birth I didn't seem to have this problem. Now it is back worse than ever. I have had to pull out my maternity clothes again because my clothes might fit me 1 day but not the next. Sometime I can even get bloated in my face and arms. Someone mentionned that it might have to do with hormones or maybe missing minerals in body like sodium....It has taken control over my life. If there is anybody that can help I would really appreciate it!!!!

eat liquid food like milk and fruits when ur problem is more

Thank you for getting back to me. First of all I am from Canada. My diet consists of lots of vegetables, fruit, chicken, beef, multigrains and fiber. I don't really think that it is the food that I am eating. I did alot of ellimination diets and nothing made a difference. Do you have any suggestions?

If you eat too much "good" diet you can also gain weight, pigs eats vegetables and they are so fat. I don't think excessives exercise will help you. If you are not some kind of alien you will loose weight when you will start to eat less for 2-3 months.
Cushing Syndrom could be a problem, secondary or primary.
I have been experiencing the same problem for 10 weeks now. When I eat anything I look 5 months pregenant and I gained 15 pounds. I am currently being tested for various conditions by my GI doctor at Ceders Sinai in Beverly Hills California and I am seeing a nutritionist weekly. I don't have a diagnoses yet but it seems like I am having problems digesting wheat, dairy, soy and highly seasoned items and high fat, high sugar items. I would recommend you remove all wheat, diary, soy and other items that cause gas such as beans and brocolli. I find when I do not eat these items and I eat small portions of food every 2 hours rather then eating a normal size meal, I feel better and don't bloat and I have lost 10 of the 15 pounds.
My GI doctor thinks I may have a bactria overgrowth in my small intestine and I am getting tested for that this Friday, July 14, 2006. I will let you know if that is the problem because it seems like we have the same issue.

My 10 year old daughter also suffers from bloating (she looks pregnant) and weight gain (more in the belly),her face also gets fat, when she was a toddler she was underweight. Then she started gaining when she turned 6.She was put on lactulose once and gained about 10 lbs in a month, while on this.I am looking into gluten intolerance, She also is short and suffers from constipation. I am getting her tested for food intolerance at york labs.
I am sorry to hear about your daughter. I know how frustrating it can be when nobody can figure out what is wrong with you. I am surprised that she gained that weight while on Lactulose. I am also on it. I find that it has helped with the bloating but not the weight gain. I am seeing an Endocrinologist next week. Hopefully he can help. Was your daughter tested for blockages or Gastroperis?

If these are some of your symptoms: pelvic pain, cramps, early or late periods that become shorter and shorter, joint pain/arthritis (even when you are young), fibromas, bloated stomach as if you were pregnant, tender breasts, fatigue, vaginitis and/or cystitis, infertility and/or miscarriages (of course, in case you are actually trying to get pregnant), lack of concentration… and last, but not least, hair loss…
Congratulations, you have a STD infection!
The funny part is that I am not using the word “congratulations” as whether this is a joke, but because I am saving you of future health problems (as diabetes, heart problems, chronic artritis, non-reseversal infertility, etc.) and chronic pain, and because, once detected, most of them are just easily treated through antibiotics.
If, apart from above symptoms, you are experiencing mood changes and long PMS, you probably have chlamydia. Other STDs that you will have to check with your gyn, are: trichomonas, mycoplasms (there are about 17 of these, but you should at least get tested for ureaplasma), and aerobic and anaerobic bacteria (there are a lot of these, so you better get a good gyn).
This is your checklist:
1. Go to your gyn and get tested from all above, only from your cervix.
2. Ask your doctor not to send the samples to a big lab such as Quest Diagnostics, as results come negative even when they are positive. Trust me, it happened to me several times.
3. Ask your doctor to run antibiogram test on the sample, so that you can be sure the organisms are sensitive to the antibiotics you will take. This is very important.
4. If, after 2/3 weeks of waiting, results are positive, congratulations, you have caught it. If not, my advice is not to give up and try again with another gyn and a different lab. Sometimes, a gyn with his own lab is very helpful. Please do not let any doctor to tell you your symptoms are psychological.
5. In the case you are positive for chlamydia, please be aware these are very resistant in the sense that, even when in text books it is said that a 10/14 days course of antibiotics is enough, it is not. Some chlamydias (these organisms get inside the cell and reproduce themselves until the host cell bursts) might live inside the cell for up to 4 weeks and therefore not be affected. Ask your doctor for high and long dose of the correspondent antibiotic. In the case you get treated but some of them survive, your will feel great for some months or even years, and then get the same symptoms with the time.
Please be aware that these are STD diseases, in the meaning that you caught it either from your actual partner, a former one or from your mother at birth. You can know if the last case is true, just checking whether you were born late (or premature, in the case of mycoplasms), and when your mom/any of her sisters have a past of miscarriages and/or infertility. Check also your partners’ family health history in the same way.
As these are STDs, you cannot have sex (even when using condoms) with your partner during the antibiotic treatment. Your partner will also have to follow the treatment. After treatment, please use condoms for at least 6 months, until you are pretty sure your system is clean and you have no recurring infections. If you do not do this, re-infection from your partner (or him from you) is possible.
PLEASE TELL THIS TO ANY WOMAN YOU MIGHT THINK HAS THIS PROBLEM. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT. IT SEEMS MEDICAL COMMUNITY IS CLOSING ITS EYES TO THIS. I DO NOT KNOW THE REASON. BUT TRUST ME, IT IS SOOOO NOT MENTAL.

I'm wondering if any of the people with these symptoms received a diagnosis. I am in a very similar boat: I have been experiencing a great deal of bloating (looking pregnant) usually after I eat lunch, I gained 15 pounds in 4 months even though I didn't change my diet or exercise routine, and I have felt very tired. The doctors say that it is not my thryoid and probably not IBS. They just tell me that I'm probably eating too much and that is causing all of my symptoms. I keep a food diary and I eat under 1500 calories each day. I eat no gluten (wheat, rye, barley), no soy, no corn, and no sugar. I only eat fermented dairy (yogurt & cottage cheese). I don't know what's wrong with me or how to fix it. Any suggestions? I'm desperate. If someone told me that a diet of only carrots and hot water would solve my problems, I'd be willing to try it!
For the past 6 months, I had stomach problems that have made me feel like I've had a volley ball in my stomach after eating. I've gained 15 lbs and feel miserable AFTER I eat. Not during. I'm eating very little and still feel bloated. I went to my gastroenterologist yesterday and he said my stomach wasn't expanding correctly while eating and that's causing the bloated feeling. I hope to talk to him again today to find out the "official" name for it. He told me to stay off of fruits, salads and raw veggies. All veggies must be cooked and soft. And I've been eating salads thinking that I was doing good for myself, when in fact I was actually feeling more miserable. I'll try this new way of eating and if it doesn't work, then I hope to see a different doctor somewhere for a second opinion. I feel crazy at times not being able to eat a normal meal, expecially when we dine out. I'll post the name as soon as I receive it. Maybe it will help someone else with the same problem.
