I'm glad to have found this forum. I have been experiencing extreme bloating and weight gain for the past 4 weeks. I have IBS and amd very careful about what I eat.
I have been eating rice, bananas and other stomach friendly foods, but I keep getting more bloated. My stomach is hard and my clothes are tighter everyday.
The doctors have run every test and cannot find naything wrong with me.
I am now trying massage, accupressure and chinese medicine.
Hoefully all will end well.

i probably cant help you much but i'm in same situation, started off by quitting all dairy and wheat products which did make me feel better but i'm still bloated and so sensitive to everything i eat.
I've been tested for everything, all bloods, cameras, scopes and was told food intolerance! So at this stage it would be easier give up eating than figure out whats causing it.
But try peppermint tea, it relieves wind and bloating.
Also try colpermin tablets, they are also made from peppermint and are available in chemist, they are for IBS but sometimes make me feel better.
As for the swimming i can agree with that, no pain or bloating when swimming but it returns as soon as you stop.
Other than that, cut out all dairy especially cheese, no fizzy drinks, no beer and drink lots of water.
But i havent fixed mine yet so sorry i cant be of more help.
I am 34 and having been on diets for most of my adult life finally lost 12 stone last year on Lighterlife but since then have suffered with extreme weight gain. sometimes as much as 15lb in one day. I have suffered from eating disorders and since last year I have returned to some of my old habits of restricting my diet to meal replacement shakes ( 500 cals per day) and then binging on vast amounts of food. When I eat normal food ( ie not the diet shakes) my stomach and hips bloat and the weight piles on. I then get night sweats and my ribs hurt, my stomach goes very tight and I get constipated. I'm not sure if it's due to the yoyo dieting or a medical problem so I'm not sure if it's due to the food or the amounts. the only way I seem to be able to control my weight and stop the bloating is if I stick to meal replacement shakes but this means I have no life and really can't face living off them for ever. I have seen GPs and Endocrinologists who say there is something wrong but they can't find out what. They seem to think that no matter how much you eat in one day a gain of 15lb is not normal and must be due to water not fat. But after I bloat and put on all the weight I have to go back on the diet shakes or else the weight stays , I really don’t want to put on all the weight I worked so hard to shift. I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat if so have you have had any luck finding out why you bloat or have found a diet that works?
As I am sure you understand bloating and swelling is a nightmare and any advice you have to help me would be fantastic!
I have the same problem, my stomach looks like I am 9 months pregnant. I am 54 and exercise. Since June my stomach started to grow. I had all blood work and a cat scan and everything is negative. I went from a size 10 jean to a 16 in just 2 months. Everyone looks at me like I am an old person with a baby in my belly. I can't even hold my stomach in. I don't know what to do. The Dr that ordered the cat scan told me to call my regular Dr in the morning. Help! Annmarie
I am so glad I found this messageboard after all this time! I am a 45 yr old female who has suffered with various "vague" symptoms since the 1980s and doctors have no idea what I have.
First of all, every day I walk at least a mile or more, I do pilates, resistance bands, weight lifting, and an excercise ball. I rarely eat more than 1500 calories a day. I make sure to eat healthy foods like low fat yogurt, low sodium V-8 juice, lean meat, and fiber cereal. I drink almost 100 ounces of water daily too. But I am always bloating, constipated, and feeling extremely fatigued or have sever brain fog about ten minutes after I eat anything, and it can last for days. My weight fluctuates every day. I can weigh 135 lbs in the morning, then come dinner I might weigh 140 lbs, easily, sometimes more. Right now, I feel like my life is simply a dream in which I can't seem to wake up from. That's how bad the brain fog gets.
I gave up on bread and pastas because I was sure eating them aggravated my symptoms big time. No change-I'm still miserable. Exercise doesn't do anything for me. Sometimes I'm so tired when I walk, I walk with my eyes closed! I've had to pull the car into a parking to take a nap sometimes because I could barely lift my head or open my eyes. And that was after 10 hours of sleep!
I've tried all the supplements people have mentioned on here-Threelac, Vitamin B6 and B 12, Enzymes, St. John Wort, Calcium/Magnesium, Gas-X, and every sort of natural cleanse mentioned in a health magazine, such as lemonaid mixed with cayenne pepper, cinnamon and baking soda in water, etc. etc. No change. I still look awful!
I also tried eliminating different foods each week, and there's no change. I've done the Candia Free Diet, the insulin resistance diet, the South Beach Diet, etc. No change.
Doctors tell me I do not have hypothyroidism, Irritable Bowel, Celiac disease, Chronic Fatigue, Fibroids, Ulcerative colitis, or anything female related problems. They all say its basically stress and to "take it easy." . I don't buy that!
I have a great job, plenty of friends, and rarely feel stressed out otherwise.
Do any of you think it's a misdiagnosis, or could it be something I didn't mention?
To all posts about stomach bloating. Investigate the relationship of any artificial sweeteners that you may be using. Especially SPENDA! It's side effects are dangerous, but also include abdominal bloating. It also has the real potential to create other uncomfortable symptoms.
I personally knew of a guy who knew me and happend to hear me talking to someone about Splenda's negative effects and I mentioned abdominal bloating. He had a light bulb moment and told me that explains why every morning after he ate his cereal sprinkled with Splenda his stomach blew up like he was 4 months pregnant. He thought he was doing something good by chosing Splenda over regular sugar. I further explained to him how Splenda was processed and he should avoid it all costs. Many sugar-free products are using this dangerous sweetner and it listed in ingredients under the name "SUCRALOSE". Do some research for yourself on the dangers of Splenda and its related name "sucralose". Don't take my word for it, you'll be amazed at what you find out about it.
That is my advice to anyone who may be consuming this very unhealthy artificial sweetner as well as any other. But in regards to this post, this may something to evaluate and consider. It could be something that simple and trust me the doctors won't look in this direction of artificial sweetners possibly being the culprit. By the way, I am seeing more and more pregnant looking men. Is it possible that they may be sucking down too much sucralose/Splenda?
In addition to my previous post, where there is a spelling error for the name of the artificial sweetener that I was referring to. The correct spelling is SPLENDA. Again along with abdominal bloating, it causes a lot of the unpleasant side affects that are listed in these posts.
I'm so glad I found this! My doctor in England won't even bother testing me for anything, and when I told him how good my diet is, he replied "yes but you must get a few snacks in there too". Then he handed me a diet sheet telling me "useful" things like not to eat too many cakes and burgers! Basically I assumed I was going mad until I found this website! My diet, like many people who have posted here, is MORE than healthy, and until recently I was cycling eight miles a day..... and still overweight. I've never had kids or been pregnant, hate junk food with a passion and stay as fit as possible.
I've spent ages trawling the internet looking at various illnesses, food allergies etc but none of them seem to fit. That was, until I found a page about FRUCTOSE MALABSORPTION. It certainly explains how I can be gaining weight on such a good diet, as it's to do with the sugars in a lot of healthy foods (notably fruit). Apparently it's common in patients with IBS, which I've noticed a lot of you mention here. It also explains how I can be having these allergic reactions to food without noticing any patterns of what's causing it. (It might explain a reaction to artificial sweeteners too, but I don't use them so not sure if they contain fructose?).
Another one I've looked into is the chemicals used eg pesticides in fruit and veg. That's something else that can cause allergic reactions. With mine in particular I've noticed my health varies between England and France (where I now live) so this might be down to the different countries ways of treating crops. Has anyone on here found an organic diet helpful? (not sure how common organic food is in the States).
It really concerns me when doctors don't bother testing people.... why did they enter the profession in the first place if not to help people?!
I have this same problem. I suffer from thyroid problems not an std. My ob and my endocrinologist both think I am crazy. I'll go in and tell them and say I have cancer in my vagina or an std, because I bleed either too much out of no where or real short. I've been tested and its not std or anything else. The only thing they found causing problems was my thyroid, first it was high and then it was not. Now they think I have hashimoto disease and I have to have a biopsy in my neck. I am soooo bloated and constipated right now. It sucks. Plus I look 6 months pregnant skinny every where else and I have gained weight even when I was watching what I eat. Did i mention I am gas-e. Well people it could be something else, but get your thyroid checked. I also have tons of girl problems, I've had cyst, infection, this whole thing messes with my hormones. I feel tired. I get blood test every 6 months.
I know the previous postings are old, but perhaps someone will find them, like I did.
My suggestion is that you consider the cause of the stomach bloating to be Candida

TO LANGENGEURLAND (SP?) All I can say is thank you so very much for your posting! I just had what I thought was a "clean bill of health" from a regular chlamydia screening at my doctor's office and thought I was safe. Sad to say I am walking around with these yucky cramps, persistent vaginitis, painful cramps and THE WORST BLOATING EVER! Can't be angry with my Doc I guess...Or can I???
