Bird Evolution

Postby larock01 » Sun Apr 16, 2006 4:44 pm

It is theorized that birds evolved from which groups?

I am hesitating on the following (I know some might be ridiculous but i would rather have broad possibilities than not have the correct answer.)
- Fish
- Amphibians
- Reptiles
- Mammals
- Prokaryotes

Thanks in advance for your help.

the egg

this answer would be true for all species that lay eggs
from evolutionary viewpoint, the first chicken always comes from the first chicken egg
the first member of any species were the offspring of another very similar species

reptiles (dinosaurs)

Not exactly true there is a strong debate if they came from Dinosaurs or the reptiles that lived along with Dinos especially theocodonts.

If you're referring to it's taxonomic classification, then perhaps. But what if...
The species the chicken evolved from had live birth, and the first chicken was the first of that genus to evolve egg-laying? I know that's a little preposterous using chickens as examples, but it had to happen at some point in evolutionary history. Of course oviparous birth probably evolved from ovoviparous birth, not vivaparous...
There were definitely eggs around waaaay before what we call a chicken today evolved. Maybe they weren't chicken eggs but does the riddle specify??? I think not!
I vote for the egg! twice!
