Enzyme 'CRT1' in Golden Rice (a question)Hello there ::waves::
I am currently researching Golden Rice for a biology project and I've come across a little snag that can't be solved by the fantastic google.com or wikipedia: I cannot find out what CRT1 stands for. I know it is the enzyme coded for the gene taken from the bacterium Erwinia uredovora. I know that it is able to convert phytoene straight into lycopene (whereas in a daffodil the enzyme 'pytoene desaturase' [PDS] is needed to convert phytoene into zeta-carotene, which is then converted into lycopene by the enzyme 'zeta-carotene desaturase' [ZDS]). I have found CRT1 called 'phytoene desaturase' on some websites, but I was unsure if this is correct or if these websites were confusing CRT1 with PDS. So, in short, if anyone can tell me what CRT1 stands for, I would be incredibly thankful.
