Origin of Medicine Symbol

Okay this is kind of off-topic but do you know that symbol that is always associated with health-care and prescription drugs. It looks like a stick with wings coming off of the sides and that thing wrapped around it? What is that called and what does it mean?

I did double check to make sure it is the same symbol
we are taliking about. At least it is the origin of it.

Greek mithology came long before the Bible... The only thing in bible that i remember could compare to the caduceus would be when Pharao and Moses change their staff in snkes that fight together. But this does not explain the winged staff of the caduceus.

I also checked with Google and did not find any christian references. Okay I read only the first link, but I am really impatient to see what you can show to explain the biblical origin of such a pagan symbol

the bible is written over a long period of time, the jesus part is in the roman era.
however we are talking about moses and pharaoh here, therefore it is likely that this part is earlier than the Greeks.
i have to agree with u though, didn't find anything like a winged staff in the bible

I think it is aesculapian, pertaining to Aesculapius, the Greek god of medicine.

Nothing moves in this world that is not Greek, it has been said!

I think it is this god who had the healing wand, although Hermes, (the messenger), did fly about because he had winged ankles.

I have been busy,busy,
so I didnt look it up yet.
But for some reason it was talked
about in class
when I was in nursing in 85.
We taliked about the Greek and biblical
origen of the sign. I guess some silly history.
of the two snakes intertwined
