snake bites????

How high can the average snake strike? If I am in the southeast United States...I have snake boots that cover up to mid-shin... Is this high enough for walking the the woods?? Or should I purchase snake chaps?

Well, for example cobras strike while sitting up, and they generally strike upward or in front. It can even aim for your head. So i'd say better keep away from poisonous snakes...

Yes, but I am pretty sure Cobras are not in the S.E. United States....My job requires fieldwork in the woods, and I was just wondering if it was common to be bitten above a mid-shin boot.

I don't think any American snakes strike very high. I suppose they could but I think the vast majority of bites occur near ground level. So I think your snake boots should be sufficient, but I would still be very careful not to put myself in a position where I could get bitten in the first place. That includes looking over logs before stepping over them, not sticking your hand in any small crevice without checking it first, and always watching where you step. Just be careful and you should be fine.
