ecology vs environment definition

Postby Sirenia » Thu Mar 16, 2006 8:29 am

hello all!

I am asked to lecture on environmental awareness to high school students.
I need help on how to simply differentiate "ecology" from "environment" to those kids, in a manner that they will easily understand.

Your ideas will be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much

Well lets see hmm.. Ecology is the study of the relationship(s) of an organism between it and its environment and the environment is the set of circumstances surrounding that organism.

For example, lets say that ecology would be the study of the students interaction or relationship with the classroom as a whole. The classroom being the enviornment in which the student lives and the set of circumstances surrounding the student in that environment would be the teacher/teachers, books, other students, etc... :D

Where in the Philippines are you at? I lived in Olongapo for six years, on Luzon. I miss the islands :( but it was many years ago that I lived there, back in the 70's. :D

I am sure there have been a lot of changes since my presence there in the 70's. Marcos was still president or was just stepping down when I left and then not too long ago the volcano took Clark AFB and Subic Bay too if I am not mistaken. From what little news I gather, there is a lot of unrest and turmoil from the NPA, I guess that is what they are still called, I don't know. It has been a long time. :(

I made a lot of friends while I was there and I sometimes wonder how they are doing. I made Gov. Vic Magsaysay an acquaintance while I was there. He was a real nice guy. I used to spend time at his home in the province on weekends. :D
