Taxonomycould anyone please tell me what the heck these are? It's my assignment and I need to report it in class and I want it to report briefly. my teacher says so too. please help me!
a. science of taxonomy b. classification c. Linnear System of Classification d. Binomial nomenclature please help me! anyone! please! I really need it! please take pity of me! HELP!!!!!!!
taxonomy= It provides an orderly basis for the naming of organisms and for placing organisms into categories
classification= grouping of organism by their relationship. reasons for classification are: 1. to establish the criteria for identifying organisms 2. to arrange related organism into groups (you need to know who belongs where) 3. to provide important information on how organisms evolved Linnear System of Classification =the name of the system that Carolus Linnaeus invented by using binomial nomenclature Binomial nomenclature=the system still used today to name all living things. A two name system in which the first word is the genus and the second word is the species Today’s discovery is tomorrow’s history.
God bless everyone.
thanks very much! but could you give me a real brief discussion about it? i mean, could you please give me a real long one (if you can) so that i can add some more ideas that i have in my report? i really need it. thanks very much.
thanks a lot!
How much do you pay?
More seriously, don't you think that you can do your homework yourself? Billy Joe gave you quite a good start. Now maybe you can go on the wikipedia or look up the web to have more ideas. Patrick

in a nutshell
In taxonomy science, accurate and standarized names are essential. All chemists must mean the same thing when they talk about an element or a compound; physicist must agree on terms when they discuss matter or energy; and biologist must agree on the names of organisms, whether they are elephants or bacteria. Another important aspect of taxonomy is that it makes use of, and makes sence of, the fundamental concepts of unity and diversity among living things. Naming and organizing things help us to understand our world and to communicate with other about it. Today’s discovery is tomorrow’s history.
God bless everyone.
I don't pay. and if i do, how the hell am i supposed to send it? anyways, i've already tried searching in wikipedia, no thank you! I have searched there and it seems that it is not complete. what i mean is i didn't find much about c. Linnear System of Classification, much to my disappointment. moreover, yahoo doesn't give me much too, and also ask jeeves, google, yehey, and other sites more, i shan't give all the sites i know
Thanks anyways.
There's no need to be rude. And I highly doubt that there isn't more than enough information on wikipedia. Perhaps it didn't work because your terms aren't the exact terms used in the encyclopedia. For instance I found the system of taxononmy under an article named "scientific classification"

thanks all the same. i know i've been rude. i just felt a little taken aback. anyways, thanks again.
Since this is somewhat of a taxonomy related question could someone tell me if there is a specific way you need to write/format a genus and species, like underlining, or capitalization?
Example: Felis catus Sturnella magna Sturnella neglecta
Like this
Felis catus Or if hand written Felis catus
Or on a more general way
genus: in italics (or underlined in handwriting) with a capital. species: in italics, no cap Patrick

Yes, I think it's in any book, man! You can just borrow some of it, ( actually on eis enough, though more, if you think you might want to get more details or accurately), and all is there. Almost all Biology book for A-level have this topic, you can try higher level, and I believe there will be more details.
I'm weird and crazy!
