You are right, there is nothing new to be discussed here and in fact, all evolution-creation forums tend to be identical in content.

In my opinion one of the main problems is that people view evolution as somehow being an equal and opposite player to religion, i.e. they assume both are concepts people "believe", and that if one must be right then the other inevitably must be wrong. This is nonsense. Evolution is a science theory and nothing more. If we were to see a piece of evidence appear in contradiction of evolutionary theory, then scientists would abandon it tomorrow. Evolution is here because it is a simple, effective way of explaining the origin of all life on earth, without the need to evoke any supernatural explaination. And it works.

The problem with religious faith however, is that it is much more to the believer than just a theory. In fact, I can safely say now that I don't think there is ANY possible amount of evidence, no matter how big, that will sway someone to abandon their faith and believe anything else. You could actually play back a video recording showing how animals evolved and they would still refuse to accept it. To them their "faith" is more than simply leaning about the origin of life, which is all evolution claims to be about.

I would also like to add that evolution and creationism are not mutually exclusive; it is entirely possible to believe in both, as we can see in examples such as the catholic church.

Thanks for the kudos to Catholicism (I'm Catholic), but I want to say that not all religious people are like that. Some are, sadly, but a lot are just as reasonable as anyone else. But I do agree that the real issue for the faithful should be that God created, not how He created.
