A question about evolution.

Postby Anonymous111 » Tue Apr 08, 2014 3:39 pm

Was the blueprint of all biological features in the first cell? I'm thinking of features like eyes, ears etc. What makes a living thing develop these features? Does the cell only contain information about biological features that work on the conditions of earth, or does it contain information about biological features that will work in other environments also? How does it know which feature to develop? Does it analyze the surroundings before starting to develop the feature? How does evolution work ? Thanks

That's multiple questions.
Was the blueprint of all biological features in the first cell? No, if you believe in evolution from single cell to multicellular organisms.

What makes a living thing develop these features? Genetic program. Think of it as a computer program that starts executing at the time of conception.

Does the cell only contain information about biological features that work on the conditions of earth, or does it contain information about biological features that will work in other environments also? Open for debate. We won't know until we try it out.

How does it know which feature to develop? Genetic program again.

Does it analyze the surroundings before starting to develop the feature? Not as far as we know.

How does evolution work ? Evolution (defined as change over time) works via negative selection. That means that random mutations appear all the time and those that are detrimental to survival are removed from the population by negative selection (=organism does not survive).
