The effect of ethanol on peroxidase activity

Postby wayne2824 » Fri Feb 14, 2014 10:44 pm

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone knew why by increasing ethanol concentration in a 10mL solution mixed with yeast, a greater amount of oxygen was produced? So peroxidase activity increased when i increased ethanol concentration in my lab. I thought it was suppose to be the opposite since alcohol denatures the enzyme...

1) alcohole does denature proteins, but at higher concentrations
2) you added the ethanol to yest, not to proteins
3) what was in that solution? Was it some growth medium or was it just water/buffer/whatever?

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
