genetics problem, please helpim really stuck on this question. the question says a skin cell undergoes mitosis. for unknown reasons, the centromere of one of the two number 4 chromosomes fails to divide. describe the resultant chromosomal content of the 2 daughter cells. supposed this happened to a single cell in reproductive tissue undergoing meiosis 2 after going through meiosis one normally. what would be the chromosomal content of the resulting cels from this cell?
thanks in advance
Well if your chromosome 4 fail to divide, How do you imagine that the DNA is parted between the 2 daughter cells. Keep in mind that nothing is thrown away... Shouldn't be too hard.
Now take a look at how meiosis happens, and try to figure out what would happen then. I guess you just discovered the secret of trisomy. Patrick

Yeah, it would end up in a trisomy of that chromosome pair, and the other set would either end up with nothing or a female, due to females having a dormant sex chromosome b/c they already have all the necessary information on that first chromosome so the other one lies in wait if anything should happen.
Saying that any two humans are exactly alike is like saying republicans have morals
We are talking about chromosome 4... not exactly an autosome. Patrick

Chromosome 4 is not an autosome?

Oooppps again. I meant a sexual chromosome. I am really making a fool of myself those days. But why multiple chromosomes with different names, anyway? Who needs more than a unique chromosome and a few plasmid for fun?

LOL... i thought i had studied the human caryotipe for 2 weeks for nothing..
PS: some people like to see their lab animals... "As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
If you see them they see you, and they can bite/scratch/defend themselves. While if infected by bacteria, that's your fault for not respecting safe handling techniques. And with bacteria you can make plenty of things like streaking to form words, decorate the lab for christmas with Petri Dishes,.... Mice do not like to be dressed as Santa Patrick

Yeah, but if you work with plants you can get a chrismas tree for free..(for "research")

And all fruits and vegetables you need too. Picked ripe and fresh. Oh so tasty... Patrick

Yeah... But then you just have to hope that you experiments were succesful and you are not eating poison
