Hi all,..

What if we manage to get a haploid plant via anther culture of F1 tomato hybrid..t hen the chromosome number is doubled by using colchicin.. does this mean we have one of the parents (line) ??

The process is called "Double haploid" (try google) and has been used successfully in a whole host of crop plants (wheat, rape, rice, rye, apple, onion etc etc).
We are considering using it in our fast track non food crop breeding programs.

To answer your question the haploid cell you start with will contain a mix of the original chrosomes, one of each but randomly selected from either original parent. Ther could also have been crossing over during the meiosis whcih created the haploid cell (people tend to use pollen/anther derived cells)
So the answer is no you will not get back one of the original parents
