Postby gauthum » Sat Jul 20, 2013 6:04 pm

hello everyone. can someone help me with the following questions.
1.what are the Uses of telomearse.
2.Is there any problem if telomearse is absent in a cell.(regarding cancer)
3.Name the gene responsible for producing telomerase.
thanks for your time.
My scientific studies have afforded me great gratification; and I am convinced that it will not be long before the whole world acknowledges the results of my work.-Gregor Mendel

If you know the difference between the leading and lagging strand of DNA, one is replicated easily while other lags behind. The long ends of chromosome pose a problem in fidel replication. Telomerase solves the problem to replicate the single ends of the chromosome.

Such single strands have to extended only with the enzymes called telomerase. Telo means what? may be end?

telomerase have protein and RNA component. RNA component acts as primes to the strand. but it gets shorter as the replication cycle. as cells age, the telomeres get shorter! shortest telomere or lack of it, signals apoptosis.

Cancer cells avoids apoptosis, by synthesis of more and more telomeres which synthesis the ends of chromosomes for the cancer cells...

I would like to know it too. The explanation was not good, to me.
Biology and create websites and webdesign to this field is what I love.
