all cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes,right?? then how come meiosis is restricted to the gonads??whatz the genetic control??

what would be the point of having all the cells in the body produce haploid cells?

agreed.but thats what we feel.how do the cells know they have to perform mitosis and not meiosis?there should be some genetic control.what do u feel??

i think it lies within the facvt that these cells have differentiated into a specific celltype and when it divides it performs a meiosis instead of a mitosis.
