Question about Type II Topoisomerase

Postby maimaiti2008 » Thu Jun 13, 2013 9:06 am

Hi,

We have learnt that type II topoisomerase can relax the positive supercoil by cutting off two strands of one DNA molecule. However, in contrast to type I topoisomerase, type II topoisomerase does not reduce the number of twist. So after type II topoismerase functions, only the number of writhe decreases. I was wondering if the DNA molecule will form supercoil again because the density of twist is still very high?

Thanks!
