Glutamine synthetase in animals

Hi everybody

I've been looking for a while now, and haven't come across this anywhere. Is glutamine synthetase (enzyme synthesizing glutamine from glutamate and ammonia) present in heterotrophs, e.g animals? This is quite a big deal, because it is the primary pahtway of ammonia assimilation in plants.

Yes. Check out GenBank http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore. Enter "glutamine synthetase" (with the quotation marks) and any animal whose genome has been sequenced, e.g. "Homo sapiens", "Caenorhabditis elegans".
