Glutamine synthetase in animalsHi everybody
I've been looking for a while now, and haven't come across this anywhere. Is glutamine synthetase (enzyme synthesizing glutamine from glutamate and ammonia) present in heterotrophs, e.g animals? This is quite a big deal, because it is the primary pahtway of ammonia assimilation in plants. Thank you in advance, and if you have any good sources then please cite them.
Yes. Check out GenBank http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore. Enter "glutamine synthetase" (with the quotation marks) and any animal whose genome has been sequenced, e.g. "Homo sapiens", "Caenorhabditis elegans".

Cis or trans? That's what matters.
