Gene targetinghello everyone
I have a question to ask.Can gene targeting be done in human being . I mean a fully grown person. And can anyone say what would be a suitable vector for using. thanking you My scientific studies have afforded me great gratification; and I am convinced that it will not be long before the whole world acknowledges the results of my work.-Gregor Mendel
Re: Gene targetingHere's a very recent publication with a few well-known vector examples. Certainly there are other possibilities. This essay also points out some potential pitfalls.
http://www.nature.com/nm/journal/v18/n1 ... -1718.html I think RNA targeting is an easier way to treat many genetic conditions.
hello thank you for your response
Does gene targeting has been successful in human being in much accuracy? can you please explain in short about cis and trans.Actually i am trying to know more about gene targeting so if you dont mind can you explain. Can retro virus can also be used as vector? Re: Gene targetingVery little work has been done in humans because of the strict regulations governing human clinical trials.
sir is it possible to remove a specific gene if its locus in the dna is known by gene targeting in humans ?

Re: Gene targetingIt might be possible (in theory, though it would not be allowed) to remove a gene from a gamete or a single-celled zygote. However, in an adult human you would have to remove the gene from every cell, and there is no technology available to alter the DNA in so many cells at once.
sir but is it possible to do so in a couple of cell say a hand full of those?

Re: Gene targetingYes. Delivery efficiency to cells in adult tissue will not be 100%. There are likely to be regulatory barriers (legal restrictions). But, in principle it is possible.
oh ok sir thank you actually. If you dont mind can you say the ways gene targeting is done. This may be silly question but i am just doing my 12th grade so please tolerate with me sir.
thank you for your time. My scientific studies have afforded me great gratification; and I am convinced that it will not be long before the whole world acknowledges the results of my work.-Gregor Mendel
