Which animal is this? When I was walking down the street I noticed this weird bug.
It looks like some kind of worm with a beak like a bird and an antenna on his head which looks like a slug eye. Does anybody know how it is called?
Re: Which animal is this?Great pictures.
From what I can see it looks like the larvae from a Hawkmoth species. Perhaps the Convolvulus Hawkmoth (Agrius convolvuli). Awesome find! Nathan 1000 Animal Facts - www.wild-facts.com

Re: Which animal is this?Hi there. It looks like a Hornworm (larval stage of a Hawk moth), either a tomatoe hornworm (Manduca quinquemaculata) if the markings on the side are V-shaped or a tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta) if the marking are straight and whiteish.
The horn is on the posterior of the insect. Cheers, Damian
Ah, WildFacts is likely correct, looking more closely at the markings on the side...
The adult form is beautiful by the way!
Re: Which animal is this?Hi guys, I went fishing last night with some mates off a wharf near Mosman in Sydney, Australia. I caught this thing in the picture below and I am very curious to find out what it is. It was alive, about 6 inches long, and parts of it glowed in the dark. It started to shrink after a couple of minutes out of the water. We then threw it back in. Hope that description helps.
