Bio and fresh massHey ppl,
Just been doing biology prep and am really confused as what fresh mass and dry mass is. Looked everywhere from bio dictionaries to internet sites but cant find a definition of them Thanks in advance Ed
From what i know, fresh mass includes water, and dry mass is withought water. If you want to calculate your dry mass, just substract the 65% of your body mass that is water
"As a biologist, I firmly believe that when you're dead, you're dead. Except for what you live behind in history. That's the only afterlife" - J. Craig Venter
Biomass is the amount of living matter present at any given time, expressed as the mass per unit area or volume of habitat.
Dry mass refers to the mass of residue present after drying in an oven at 105`C for zooplankton and periphyton, until the mass remains unchanged. This mass represents the total organic matter, ash and sediment, in the sample. Dry mass values are expressed in the same units as ash mass "A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort" - H. Albright
