question about profits of Monsanto or general BioTech

How long did it take Monsanto to recoup the expenses of biotech research and development, and how far have they taken their profit margin? I also want general information about the expenses of developing things biotechnological.

I would like to think that BioTech could be used for more good than bad. Although some people derive more motivation from money than discovery, progress, or altruism, the fact that BioTech is big business must be putting BioTech on a less ethical path.
FI have read that Monsanto will heavily sue a farmer who violated the copyright. Even so if the farmer thought their actions were legal and did not gain much from violating the copyright.
