Hi! I'm a newbie here so I'm unfamiliar with the way things work around here...
I know this is a MASSIVE ask but it's extremely important!
I have a question about Mitosis and Meiosis. On the 31st of July I will have 40 minutes to compose a written response fully explaining all points and descriptions of processes where appropriate (I may draw labelled diagrams) comparing and contrasting the processes of Mitosis and Meiosis.
Firstly, I understand I need to know what Mitosis and Meiosis is before attempting to compare and contrast them, despite reading and reading websites, watching YouTube videos the concepts are still pretty fresh for me, in other words, it is almost foreign... It's such a difficult concept to grasp! (for me at least....)
Here's a general outline of what I already know. (It may be incorrect, let me know!)
Mitosis occurs in all cells of the body. A cell duplicates and two daughter cells are produced - both with identical DNA. Mitosis occurs to replace damaged cells, to grow and to repair our bodies.
This is just about all I know, I know that Mitosis occurs in stages (Prophase, prometaphase, metaphase anaphase and telophase). Please elaborate on this, anything that you deem important will be imperative for me to understand in this task.
Meiosis. Meiosis occurs in the reproductive system. Instead of 2 cells being produced like in mitosis, 4 cells are produced and with half the amount of chromosomes.
See? I am quite limited regardless of the amount of reading and watching I do... I need someone to explain (preferably someone who is certain they know they're correct) thoroughly to me both processes (in simple ENGLISH!!). I have some notes regarding the contrast of both processes. Here:
Meiosis is cell division for gametes.
Prior the process of meiosis and mitosis DNA replication occurs. In both processes the nuclear membrane breaks down as the DNA organises into what is known as chromosomes. Chromosomes carry genetic information in the form of genes. In meiosis the chromosome synapse, this results in the mixing of genetic information between the chromosome pairs. The paired chromosome then line up at the equator of cell and subsequently separate with each chromosome travelling to either end of the cell. In meiosis a second cell division occurs resulting in 4 cells with half the number of chromosomes. Mitosis involves a single division resulting in 2 cells with no change in number of chromosomes.
I need to fill out 40 minutes of writing - clearly this is insufficient.
I know this is a MASSIVE ask and you may be taking time out your lives to help me, for which I am deeply thankful.

Meiosis is a two step process in whch the first division is reductional while the second division is equational. DNA is recombinant in daughter cell and not same as that of parent cell unlike mitosis.
