Hundreds or thousands of years - so science fiction rathe than science. You imagine what people will do - nice - explains the catchy terms and the melodramatic "if we don't wipe ourselves out first" and i esp like the hang on to your hat.
But do drop the "we", whatever it is it will be they and you'll be noprt of it.
