Regulatory elements inside introns

Hi

I am wondering if intron have regulatory elements other than splicing recognition signals (Donor, Acceptor and branch point sites). because I have found a mutation in the middle of the intron of my gene and noticed that the patient has some phenotypic resulted from this mutation. So is there any regulatory elements can be found in the introns of some genes? If yes? what type of regulatory elements because I do think that regulatory elements should be found in the promoter region to deliver the expression correctly...!!!

Try a search using the key phrase "intronic splice silencers". Alternative splicing is directed by proteins binding to RNA, often at regions distant from the splice junctions.

Gene promoters, binding sites for regulatory proteins/microRNAs, etc can also be within introns.
