3' end of a PCR primer

Why it is necessary to avoid more than three G or C nucleotides at the 3' end of a PCR primer?

Too many Gs or Cs can encourage mispriming. The ones that match can bind strongly, thereby increasing the chances that mismatches at other positions are tolerated.
