OK to use disease name over virus name?

is it ok to use the name of the disease if the actual virus name is not known?

I think the viruses are even often called with the disease name (say like flu virus, although this is of course just an example).

some examples: West Nile virus, Yellow fever virus and for molecular biologists probably most known CMV.
