Gene enhancers/repressors in Drosophilia stripesHey guys,
Question that I can't seem to answer correctly/articulate in the right way. Gene expresses 2 stripes, 1 in the anterior and 1 in the posterior. The same activator binds to both enhancers and is required for expression in both the ant and post stripe. Activator is present in an ant/post gradient. Describe a mechanism by which the enhancers might specify the 2 stripes. You may use the activity of a repressor. You may modulate the affinity or number of binding sites (but not both) in Enhancer A and B. *In the mechanism, what would be the effect on expression pattern if you deleted enhancer A?
I know it has to deal with having repressors interacting with the enhancers at different gradients along the fly and when enhancers are "on", transcription can occur and a stripe can be made. I just can't seem to understand the details behind this.
