Heart rate+ measuring prior to exercise and after

Hello I have a question to ask regarding resting heart rate! I would appreciate if anyone posts suggestions please:
I know that we have to rest and sit for at least 5 minutes before taking resting pulse...
but how can we CHECK that 5 minutes is sufficient enough to take the reading?
