About to get my BS in Biology, terrible resume so far...So I've kinda had some issues with staying focused in life. I started as an electrical engineer major and did pretty damn terrible...
So I transferred and switched to biology, and I like it a LOT more. Much more interesting and "wet" than engineering which I found dull and dry. Anyway, I'm about to graduate with a BS in Bio and I'm still not quite sure what to do. Remember how I said I kinda have trouble focusing? Well, while in school I played live poker alot for serious money, and it was kinda my escape and I spent time on that while others classmates probably spent the same time working or doing research jobs. The great thing is I have an extremely high GPA, so I really hope that matters to employers or if I decide to try grad school. My GPA is ~3.75. In my genetics class I was literally the only one out of 70 students to get 100% on the final exam. Biology just comes naturally to me. But I like do to problem-solving things in biology rather than just memorization. So while I like biology, I'm not as thrilled about classes where there is just pure memorization. Anyway, how bad of shape am I considering everything I said? I did do one small, unpaid, short internship last summer finding/sorting small mollusks in a lab. Other than that, my resume sucks... Advice needed please.
Re: About to get my BS in Biology, terrible resume so far...There's not much job market for a Biology Bachelor's - grad school is the route, with low-paying assistantships (but no tuition fees) for a few years.
Re: About to get my BS in Biology, terrible resume so far...Unless your goal in life is maximising your bank account, being unfocused is a GOOD thing, although employers aren't too keen on it. Grad school is a heck of a lot different than undergrad - better if you prefer thinking to memorising. I'd also highly recommend lying on as many tropical beaches as you can before you get too serious.
Re: About to get my BS in Biology, terrible resume so far...I'd like to do research in a lab setting post-graduation (which is only a few months from now). At least for half a year or a year...Now I know you need a masters to actually direct research, but I'm pretty sure a BS in biology is sufficient to be a research assistant or technician. Will I be in good shape even though I lack a lot of research experience?
Re: About to get my BS in Biology, terrible resume so far...i dont think there is much work for biologists
but you will need a Phd to get any real work
i think, you are not focused because you still cant find a perfect setting for you..i think you are adventurous..what major did you take? microbiology? zoology? botany?
