Seeking help to ID this microbe.I found this in the cavity of a tree where a branch had broken off, allowing water to accumulate inside. I pipette some of the water and brought it in to my microbiology lab to look at under the microscope. I can tell from the video and images I took that it has flagella on the anterior end, with the nucleus arranged more toward the posterior end, but other than that, I'm not too versed in identifying other key characteristics.
Video of a single one circling around some sediment at 400x zoom: http://youtu.be/KbgZZ3T1824 Video of a few of them swimming around at 100x zoom: http://youtu.be/wPsoWZD3vzQ Image of the one from the 400x zoom after it died (note the flagella): Any help would be appreciated. I just look at this stuff out of curiosity in my microbiology lab between class periods at my university, and not being able to identify this has just made me more curious as to what it is. Thanks.
Re: Seeking help to ID this microbe.its a protozoa--euglena
Re: Seeking help to ID this microbe. Thanks!
I also notice that Euglenophyta(Euglenoids) are also classified in my Phycology book. Is the distinction between them being protozoan or algal not set in stone so much?
