Social relationships and evolution

This sentence came to my mind as an example for an enlgish lecture strategies class:

"It seems to be that animals that are higher in the evolutional escale develop more complex social relationships"

However, I am no longer sure about its accurancy. I meditated about it on the way home , but still can not decide whether this assertion is generally correct.

This is my second year studing physics and I hope you can help me with a non-tecnical yet clear explanation about why this is or isn´t true.

Yes but ¿how complex are the relations between animals like ants and bees in comparison with more evolved animals wich tend to be socially organized, say meerkats or apes?

I see, but you are picking the social mammals, but if you want to make any generalization, you must include all possible animals, even those which are not social.

Relationships between social insects are simple and every individual is part of set or cast which performs similar function until they die. That means they follow simple social systems, which can be controlled by complex stimuli.

e.g. Ant worker, soldier ant and queen has different role and function and has no choice to decide position in colony.

In case of higher organisms the individual performs complex functions by leading different roles in its life. Which are controlled by very complex stimuli one at a time all more like hormones, environmental factors, natural instincts, prey-predator relation, geographic location, inter or tra specific competition etc.

e.g. consider a life of female wild dog from its birth
Birth > juvenile (Protected, food available easily and care by other members)> Young (Position in group decided by hierarchy, food available depend on position, need to obey leading female, stress) > Queen- leading female (Higher position, gets preference in food and handles the group members) and has choice to fight for position OR move out.
