Absence of Starch

A multicoloured leaf was removed from a plant and tested for starch. No starch was present although the plant was in the sunlight for more than 8hrs. Why is starch absent?

Quick uptake of glucose to cellulose and not storing glucose in starch or perhaps the plant doesn't make glucose that can be put into starch. It might make another carbohydrate type.

I don't think that's the reason, the glucose and starch production are ubiqitous and general. I think the hint is the multicolored leaf. But I don't know, what should that mean. Old leaf?
