How the soil knows the different seeds

Postby fuad47 » Mon Nov 07, 2011 11:22 am

I am not a biologist but I want to find answer a question :| . Are the main\basic components of all seeds (carbon, nitrogen, oxygen) are the same (I intend in molecular level). And if yes, how the soil know what seed belong to which plant\tree and grows respectively. For example from apple seed grows apple tree and from banana seed grows banana tree when all seeds are the same\at least their basic components\materials, is it DNA case or something else :?:

Thanks people.)

yes,it is the DNA, nothing mysterious or superficial

Cis or trans? That's what matters.

Hello,
To clarify, the plant (or tree) that grows out of the soil does not actually come from the soil, it grows from the seed. The seeds of a specific plant contain DNA that is unique to that plant. To put it simply, the DNA contained in the seed basically is an instruction manual for the plant, that tells it when to grow and how the cells should divide and differentiate.
The soil is only a medium for the seed/plant to grow in, and to get nutrients and water from.

Think about it in the same sense as a growing chicken egg. The seed, like the egg, was produced from the a parent organism. It contains the instruction manual (DNA) in its cells from the parent plants, and some nutrients for its initial growth. The developing chicken does not grow from the nest that it was layed in, but from the egg, as the plant does not grow from the soil, but from the seed itself. Eventually the chicken will grow and develop by eating, and the plant will grow and develop by taking in nutrients from the soil. The soil is where the plant gets its food.

Hope this explanation helps!
