Not sure if anyone still reads this thread but....
I have just had a blood test done that tested about 250 different food allergies. It came back (it reads like a graph) to reveal i am allergic to sugar cane. So other sugars are fine, its specifically sugar cane i need to avoid.
The thing is, up till now (i'm 25) i've eaten sugar cane my entire life. I have a recurring illnesses - urinary tract infections. I also always seem to be tired, anemic (also predominantly vegetarian though) and always light headed, sometimes fainting. I had the blood test because i was at my wits end with bladder infections and taking ani-biotics every month, so i was willing to try anything. But i dont really know how sugar harms me, does it make my blood dance and scream? It surely dosent give me a rash or sneezing, or other common reactions to allergys.
Anyway i'm doing my best to go off sugar in the hope that is what was causing my bladder infections, but i'm just wanting to know if anyone can shed some light on this for me, i'm apparently allergic to sugar cane, proved by a blood test, but what does this really mean?
What exactly in sugar cane are you alergic to?

High sugar AFAIK is related to yeast infection, not bacteria. But there is natural substance that has clinically proven effect against urinary tract infection (UTI), and that is not too complicated to use: drink cranberry juice. The high tannins that end up in the urine prevent bacterial attachment to the UT. But it won't help you reduce your sugar intake...

My friend isn't allowed to eat sugar. Well, obviously she eats some sugars. But she can't have chocolate,cakes, ice cream and stuff. And she can't eat bread and potatoes. Her diet consists mainly of vegetables and fruit, sometimes pasta, meat and fish.
when I have refined sugar atleast, others i dont know yet ... My eyelids swell and itch and my neck , inside my throat,my scalp my cheeks,in my ears ,nose drips and itch, , my side of hip gets hives ,my inner thighs loses patch hair and hives begin, around my hands lose hair and up just above my ankles,my back itches and can hive too. My testies, and side my scrotum. my sphyxter... ok that s alot... I also have cilliac disease , lactose intolerent,and cant have tomato , ..OVAL is great for the tom prob...
Now I was reading an article that said pple with celliac diease 15-20% get this itching too, Dermatitis Herpetiformis but it says is treated effectively by an antibiotic called dapsone. I havent spoke to my dr yet to try it but , perhaps this info might be worth looking into . I dont knwo maybe it wont work but maybe it CAN work too
I have a friend whose husband is extremely sensitive to anything sweet, he cannot eat any fruits or sugar or fake sugars, even some sweet vegetables he gets extremely ill but it doesnt show up until 1 - 2 days later and it induces a involuntary violent reaction to sugar and severe depression, and his personality changes severe mood swings. He has learned to avoid refined sugars and fruits or anything with fake sugar. His wife reads lables.
He has been tested for diabetes and it does not show anything accept pre-diabetis or low blood sugar. When they look at the Diabetic diet they find that diabetics can have all sorts of things he could never even touch one spoon ful of or one taste of! He can have things like bread, rice, potatoes with no effect. But give him something sugar free or a fruit or something and he is sick for 2 days! THe problem is the doctor told him recently that he can have some sugar, just not a lot because he is diabetic. This has caused havoc in their family with his sudden erratic behaviour, depression and mood swings. As he has avoided sugar for 12 years! This doctor''s ignorance and suggesting he can now have a little bit of sugar is causing so much trouble for them!
They are at their wits end, they have gone to doctor after doctor, because no doctor can seem to tell them what this is. They have guessed he has more of an allergy to sugar. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS IS? HAS ANYONE HEARD ABOUT THIS?Help, Can anyone explain this condition or refer to a website for more information. They need some solid information so they can also give to his doctor so he can refer them elsewhere for treatment!
In response to this sugar allergy discussion, I have had chronic anxiety disorder since I was a child (9 years old) and have been on mood stabilizers up until 3 month ago. I am 29 years old now and it turns out that I dont really have "chronic anxiety disorder" after all, just an intolerance for any and all refined sugars. I have no symptoms from fruit or honey, agave, or carb type foods, just refined sugars. If I eat any refined sugar, it takes about 24 hours but the anxiety never fails to show its ugly face the next day and depending on how much I ate, it will take 2-4 days for my complete sanity to return. I am also allergic to gluten as of 3 years ago.
Hi. I also have problems with eating sugars, which seems to be part of fungal problems. This is something that most doctors do not acknowledge. Over 15 years ago, when I first began to sort out my health problems, my doctor insisted it had nothing to do with candida, as I had no thrush. I was told to come back next time I had an "outbreak" (rashes, rectal itching, breathing problems, etc) and she would take a swab and have it tested. The test proved I was right. Beware: DOCTORS WILL NOT HELP YOU, you will usually have to do your own homework.
Also, everyone seems to react a little differently. I knew someone who was diagnosed with M.E. and invalided out of the army. He'd been ill for two years, but after going through a strict anti-fungal regime with a naturopath, he was fine. I know another who was told she had irritable bowel syndrome who cleared up her problems with an anti-viral diet.
I have had numerous health problems: those mentioned above as well as urinary tract infections, trouble passing urine, tachycardia (fast heartbeat), gas, coated tongue, lack of concentration, weight problems, sore throats, etc. I cannot eat any kind of refine carbohydrates without suffering symptoms. Many books have been published, but one of the most useful is Atkins, as he devotes a whole chapter to systemic fungal problems in his diet book. I found I lost no weight on his strict two-week induction diet until I'd undergone a month of anti-fungal treatment: garlic, pro-biotics and a strict diet.
Worth a try for anyone with sugar problems.
For those of you who are skeptical as to whether there is such a thing as a sugar allergy..........there is. I have been living with it for six years now, most of my symptoms included migranes, stomach aches, mood swings, constant thirst combined with always having to go pee and constantly feeling like was on the verge of getting the flu.
I tried everything, from different detergents to changing my deodorant and perfume but nothing worked. One day while my mom was talking to my uncle (my cousin has type 1 diabetes) she decided to have me cut sugar out of my diet, after about a week I was feeling a lot better my migranes and all other symptoms were gone. I talked to my cousins diabetic coach, told her my symptoms and she confirmed that it was a sugar allergy. though I haven't had and allergy test for this I am going to take her advice and keep sugar out of my diet.
I'm sensitive to even a small amount of sugary drink or food, including chocolate/sweets/desserts, and pretty quickly feel the effects - friends describe me as bouncing off the walls! Depending on how much I have I feel hyperactive, talk incessently, can't concentrate, struggle to string sentences together and wouldn't be safe to drive! It wears off over an hour or two, and can be followed by a low. I can also have a low if I'm hungry. I know it's not an allergy, but I haven't been able to find out much about what would be causing this, although obviously it's better when I don't eat sugar.
I wonder if they are allergic to only refined sugar. Most sugar is refined and bleached - lots of residual chemicals left in the sugar. So you have to take into account for the toxins, although minimal and pass FDA specs, that can cause allergic reactions.
I also wonder if the allergic people to sugar, take a glucose only test? Pure straight glucose tolerance test to see if that was the object of their allergy? Were you treated by a physician and given a test to confirm the diagnoses? or is it just a phenomenon that you observed yourself?
