Sugar AllergyModerator: BioTeam Sugar Allergyok...someone asked me, "If a person was allergic to sugar, what would they eat?"
But what I think is that if someone was allergic to sugar, wouldn't they die? Becuase energy is ,of course, derived from sugar. And this is not like diabetes, where you are allowed to consume sugars as long as you control it and take insulin. If you were allergic to sugar, you wouldn't be allowed to consume sugar at all. Is it even possible for such an allergy to exist? Probably not because a fetus wouldnt be able to develop with such an allergy, right...? Can fetuses even have allergies? The person also asked : "if the person had this 'sugar allergy' would they have to consume a special diet?" But what diet could possibly replace sugar as the precusor to energy? Sorry if I'm asking confusing or pointless questions. But someone just asked me this and it started this whole line of thought.
hei..
sugar allergy? an allergy is bought by DNA so if some one want his body cured permanently,, there are others way. maybe he must had his DNA changed or he must die...(sorry..)
Well, first I wanna say that there are many types of sugars..different chemical structure bond in the sugars also can affect the allergenic effect of the sugar...and also, if someone (example) are allergic to glucose (even though I think it's impossible) they can change their diet with galactose (because it's already a derived form from glucose-6-phosphate) or fructose (to undergo fructolysis)..this is only example so don't take it so seriously..
@Baikuza Allergy isn't directly caused by gene in DNA fragment, but it's caused by human's immune system where basophils and mast cells are induced to release histamine as allergen to set up fast-hypersensitivity type reaction (anafilactic reaction). A: They have all the solutions.
I agree it is impossible to be allergic to glucose, since the nervous system only uses glucose. Only if it a brainless person
But there are people allergic to certain sugars. the most common example are people who are lactose intolerant. And yes, lactose is a sugar "I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I want to understand the universe and answer the big questions, that is what keeps me going" - Stephen Hawking
Based on the book that I've just read...yes, some people are intolerant to some sugars but it's only happen in long chained carbon sugars (e.g. amylum). But for our basic necessity sugar which is glucose and fructose, I think that they're not allergenic sugars.

I would be impossible for them to be

Sugar allergyI am a living proof of someone who has sugar allergy. I have been allergic to sugar since I was a teenager and its not fun at all. I get rushes, my nose bleeds and I get joint pain and headaches, in worst situations I get fever. The same reaction I get when I eat peanut butter. Most of the time I use honey, however I am getting a slight reaction to honey…I wonder if there is anything like natural honey…..I didnt get a chance to see what component of sugar is causing the allergy but I have always wondered about it....
You may be allergic to sucrose(although also highly unlikely) but you know, bread and potatos also contain sugars

I too am allergic to sugar. I can have lactose and fructose, but I can't not have other sugars or refined cabrohydrates. I get almost immediate pain in my stomach, bloating, constipation, etc.
I delt with IBS for 4 years and happened to try the South Beach Diet which is low on carbs. This cured me like night and day.
Probably from two cases above, two of you are allergic to glucose but not fructose. So, natural honey is your main food then...

allergic to glucose? Hello! That means that the allergy will still appear even if you don't eat glucose since the body stores carbs as glucose

Allergy to glucose? Impossible. Even if you don't eat glucose directly, Some compounds are changed into glucose and then used.
