Wetlands porvide effective large scalle inucbation vessels where micorbes can degrade discharge materials as well as breeding areas for a wide variety of animals. They are also breeding areas for disease-transmitting pests such as mosquitos and this is the reason so many wetlands or swamps near cities were drained.

Also, something interesting is that wetlands are among the most productive biomes on Earth.
