Help for discussion topics for class debate?Hi all,
So i have to lead a discussion for my IB class and i have to bring up societal implications for the topic at hand which is genes and fidelity. I don't know if this will help, but this was the article: http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/20 ... ment-pill/ I am honestly clueless/stuck on coming up with topics and i really want to have some solid ones since the past groups haven't had the greatest discussions. The only one that i sort of have is: + What would your viewpoint be if we did have pills that enhanced the probability of a couples attachment to each other. I don't necessarily think that it would be considered a decent topic though. I will be forever grateful for anyone's contribution!
Re: discussion topics for genes and fidelity?I'm in IB as well, though I've never had such a discussion in any science class.
First of all, my view is that this pill is a bad idea considering the fact that vasopressin (ADH) is primarily involved in maintaining blood volume. If ADH receptors are up-regulated, it may result in high blood pressure. The ethical part of the argument is therefore irrelevant. However, these are two questions I think are good: + In terms of evolution, what are the advantages and disadvantages of polygamy/monogamy? + Are there any potential benefits of having a low commitment between male and female?
