Bioluminescent BacteriaHi there,
I hope someone can help me. Im a final year architecture student looking to research into bioluminescence and its potential application in lighting and wanted to grow my own bacteria. I am by no means a biologist but I am familiar with the process. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me where I might be able to purchase the relevant bacteria online and if there was any tips you could give me to ensure a successful result. Thanks in advance
since this would be probably GMO and in EU are strict regulations for handling with GMO, I don't think it's possible to get luminiscent bacteria at home.
However, if you were able to get it without paying fines, you would need sterile enviroment, nutrients of needed purity and some substrate for the luminiscence. Anyway, what do You want it for? Use it instead of lamp? http://www.biolib.cz/en/main/
Cis or trans? That's what matters.
I believe this bacteria is found naturally in the wild at low depths in the ocean and is not genetically modified. A location where one would purchase bacteria would be a good start I feel. Are there any online stores or companies you know of?
