Can we shorten our sleeping time?

Everyday, we sleep for at least 8 hours. In this 8 hours, many things can be done and if we can shorten our sleeping time into 5 minutes or 10 minutes, then many works can be done as we gain extra time. Of course, our normal activities must no be affected with the decrease in the sleeping time. Is it possible?

There are important stages that build and need both entrance-phases and exit phases, so there's a longterm limit to how short a "useful" sleep time can be.
