Limit of e.coli on dried leaves

Hi.good day everyone...I Would like to know the maximum acceptable number of e. Coli on dried leaves??pls. Help...I've seen 100 some said 1000....?....?????

Totally depends and will vary upon the dryness of the leaves. it should be of low number as you have mentioned. I don't know about the E. coli only, but any microorganism you will rarely find in dry conditions. E. coli is an enteric and is motile. hence it will require a liquid medium, hence dry places you will rarely find any motile organism. :)

Wrong - enterics are commonly found in dry environments and motility has nothing to do with their survival in this context. You need merely look at relevant FDA recalls - potato chips, peanut butter, black pepper, nuts, dried noodles, dried milk, dried eggs, dry dog food, etc.
As jackbean asked, what is the application? E. coli per se is not a pathogen - it's an indicator organism, so there may not be a specific regulatory limit. For most foods, regulations militate against specifc pathogens such as salmonella, listeria etc.

yes, depends on the application. refer to USPharmacopeia for limits. :wink:
