Charge transport through DNAHello all! Had anybody met papers where charge transfer was described (not along single DNA but between different single DNA in the double helix) ?
The proton transfer in the hydrogen bond was described. Therefore this case is not interesting. It is interesting - is electron transfer possible through hydrogen bond or by another way (not through hydrogen bond) ? Also question - is proton transfer possible not through hydrogen bond but another way (not through hydrogen bond) ? Thanks
Re: Charge transport through DNAI've read that the strand of DNA is conductive along the stacked bases, supposedly by electrons flowing through the pi orbital systems of the bases. It was proposed that the electrons move from one base to the next though the close proximity of the pi clouds when the bases are stacked in a double helix. I came across these papers in the '90s and I have no idea what the citations were, but you can likely find them using Pubmed on NCBI (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov).
